What? Um, what do FMCSA regulations and the family mean? Does that make any sense?
I grew up in a trucking family. I remember riding with my dad when i was a kid. That was a long time ago. Before seat-belts in trucks, before safety was even up for discussion.
A driver in Kentucky thought he would bring his family along in his truck. And now he is facing steep fines.
If you want to take the family in the truck, it can be done. If you drive or have your truck leased to a company, you need to find out what the policy is. If the policy says you can bring a passenger, you need to carry that authorization with you. Kids need to be in appropriate safety seats. Everyone needs a seat-belt.
Kids love trucks, they like to watch them, touch them and sit in them. But they are kids, you have to watch them like a hawk. This driver in Kentucky had some other issues, like alcohol in the truck so its not likely that safety was the first thing on his mind.
Fortunately the Highway Patrol stopped him before something bad happened.
If your a trucking family, the kids are going to want to be in the truck!
Just make sure you all stay safe and follow the law!
