When It Rains – El Nino

The Western United States is suffering through an extended drought. The weather man is hinting that winter 2015/2016 may be an El Nino year. That would mean lots of rain. Yippee!

But, the drivers in the western states have not driven on wet roads in awhile. Hydro-planing, slick roads, slower speeds, all things we haven’t had to deal with in the last few years..

So, what are you doing to get ready for the rain? It doesn’t matter if  you are a professional driver or a soccer mom, there are things you can do to be prepared.

  • Check your tires, check your tires, check your tires! Tread wear and inflation.
  • Practice good following distance. If the car in front of you stops can you? Slick roads require greater following distance.
  • Distracted? Put the phone away where you can’t reach it.
  • Be aware of your fuel gauge. Don’t be frantic in a traffic slowdown because your on empty.
